About LLMobile.news
LLMobile.news covers AI that runs on the device itself: the models, chips and apps bringing it to smartphones.
Phones hold some of our most personal data, yet many AI features still depend on a data centre. Running capable models locally remains demanding, but smaller models are improving and mobile hardware is catching up. This site follows the developments that could make useful on-device AI more widely available.
LLMobile.news started in summer 2026. The archive has been backfilled with the most important earlier milestones in the development of AI models optimised for smartphones. AI is used in the editorial process, and every post is read by an experienced journalist before publication.
I’m Jonathan Kemper, based in Düsseldorf. I’ve covered consumer technology and smartphones for around 15 years, and reported on AI almost daily for the past four, much of it for THE DECODER. You can find more of my work at kemper.fyi.
